Getting Started
How do I roll dice?

On the Roll tab, select your die type (D4 through D20), set the number of dice and any modifier, then tap the Roll button. The 3D die will tumble and land with your result.

You can also hold the Roll button to charge your throw for a more dramatic animation.

How do I use presets?

Presets are pre-configured dice rolls for common D&D actions. Tap any preset chip in the quick-access tray to instantly configure that roll. Tap Browse All to see all 30+ built-in presets organized by category (Core, Weapons, Spells, Healing).

To create a custom preset, tap the + button in the preset browser and enter standard dice notation like 2d6+4.

What dice types are available?

Spellroll supports all standard D&D dice: D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20, D100, and Percentile. Each die is rendered as a 3D model with realistic physics.

AI Narration
How does AI narration work?

After each roll, Spellroll uses Apple Foundation Models (Apple Intelligence) to generate a dramatic narration tailored to your result. A natural 20 becomes a tale of triumph; a fumble becomes comedic catastrophe.

If you have a character set up, the narration incorporates their class, level, and backstory.

Does AI narration require an internet connection?

No. All AI processing runs entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device Foundation Models. No data is sent to any server. Spellroll works fully offline.

AI narration isn’t appearing. What do I do?

AI narration requires iOS 18.1 or later and a device that supports Apple Intelligence. Check that Apple Intelligence is enabled in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri.

If your device doesn’t support Apple Intelligence, Spellroll will still work perfectly for dice rolling — the AI narration feature simply won’t be available.

Characters
How do I create a character?

Tap the character icon to open the character sheet. You can set your character’s name, class (all 13 D&D 5E classes), level (1–20), ability scores, and a backstory.

Your character details shape the AI narrations, making each roll feel personal to your adventure.

Is my character data backed up?

Character data is stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData. If you have iCloud Backup enabled in iOS Settings, your data will be included in your device backup — but it is never sent to our servers.

Troubleshooting
The 3D dice aren’t rendering properly

Spellroll uses Apple RealityKit for 3D rendering. Try closing and reopening the app. If the issue persists, restart your device. 3D rendering requires a device with an A12 chip or later.

Haptic feedback isn’t working

Make sure haptics are enabled in iOS Settings › Sounds & Haptics. Some older devices may not support the full range of haptic patterns.

How do I set up Siri Shortcuts?

After using a preset at least once, you can add it to Siri Shortcuts. Go to the iOS Shortcuts app and look for Spellroll actions, or say “Hey Siri, roll for initiative” if you’ve set up that shortcut.
